Election SOS Fellowship!!

Election SOS, an initiative by Hearken and the American Press Institute, in collaboration with Trusting News and the Democracy Fund is rolling out a new fellowship program to help support local newsrooms around the country in their coverage of the 2020 general election.

Election SOS Fellowship Program is looking for students and recent grads who are pursuing a career in journalism to help newsrooms during this chaotic time. Get firsthand experience covering elections:

  • Participate in virtual training with seasoned election reporters and newsroom leaders.
  • Monitor social media for militia activity and voter suppression.
  • Learn about community outreach, election research, and data entry.
  • Collaborate with reporters to create inclusive voter guides and critical resources for the public.

The fellows are encouraged to work 8 to 30 hours per week and will be paid $25 per hour. Selected fellows will begin training the week of Oct. 5 and fellowships will continue up to and after Election Day. Fellowships can be virtual or, if feasible and safe per public health guidelines, in person.

Members from underrepresented communities are encouraged to apply, including LGBTQ, women, and people with disabilities.

The deadline to apply is Sept. 29 at 11:59 pm EST.
